Using the metaphor of a bath tub to represent our mind, but instead of water, the tub is filled with sensory memories of every object form and behavior we have ever known and remembered.
This reservoir of information represents our unconscious mind. The key to accessing the memories, is through the resolution of form to an observer perspective in space and time. For memories to associate in consciousness, they must resolve to this single observer perspective. Any perspective or scale is possible, but once chosen, you can only combine object forms into consciousness from that single observer point. Metaphor and scale can subsequently be used to extend this limitation.
The unconscious memory pool will have many connection pathways between objects such as language tags, behaviors, vision and episodic links. But human consciousness is limited to resolving and assembling only a few objects at a time to a given perspective. We cannot be simultaneously conscious of multiple objects in multiple scenes at multiple perspectives.
Any particular collection of objects connected and in harmony with the observer perspective, becomes the content of our consciousness. As the unconscious connection patterns ebb and flow, driven by emotional grading, so the content of our consciousness flows. We simply are, existentially, that flow of information. We identify our own existence by these patterns of resonance, and their relation to other yet unconscious memory objects from our past, and their linking pathways to language, emotion and history. Our subjective experience of existence simply 'is' this inner flow, with all its inherent potential. We connect to our external reality by way of our mind recognizing object forms from the incoming patterns of sensory flow (primarily from vision), which guide the initial selection, scale, perspective and emotional hue of our unconscious memory resources, ready for our mind to begin immediate surfing for further connections within the unconscious.
Because our mind holds memories of all that we know, conscious experience will always find a home within these memories. Any place of resonance will have connecting pathways beyond.
Now although reality exists, it cannot be aware of itself,
because there is no mechanism for it to freeze and play with
time. It is a slave to the space and time continuum.
Whereas the human mind, by polarizing space through the
senses, and assembling the resulting patterns of information
into sets that reflect non polarized reality, can experience
a deep simulated reality through the opening up of pathways
between the past and the future to generate time - through
the use of memory precedents and metaphor.
The mind effectively builds an internal space and time
'machine' (represented by the self)within an artificial
reality that is a representation of the external reality.
In order to navigate that artificial world, the 'machinery
of self' needs to re-polarize memory patterns (into observer
observed) from within the subconscious memory, to allow
them, and the self, to become 'conscious'.
