Wisdom |
We appear to be embodied within a 3d reality. A reality where our 'actions' feed back into our memories (through our senses) to create a perception of 3d space and time bound by cause and effect. Intelligence is about seeing connections through space - how this can connect to that, and through time - how this can cause that. Wisdom is about guiding our actions such that when we reflect upon the subsequent memories made, we would not wish to change what we did. We appear to inherit a personal aesthetics from our genes which is then measured against our thoughts and perceptions (derived from our environment) to create 'emotion'. The emotion directs subsequent thought and action. Our 'ego' claims ownership of this process, a seperation of self from other. |

But there are many questions still to be answered.
I suspect that we are barely conscious at all, in comparison to our real potential. That there is a large difference between what is physically true, and the beliefs we use as a short cut to 'see' the truth. Humility is an early pre-requisite toward wisdom. And the irony is, that the wiser we become, the less certain we are. We begin to realise just how little we can say that is actually true. Wisdom will slowly silence us. Like a child cheering a punch and judy show and realizing there is a bigger reality outside and falling silent. No longer certain whether we should cheer or cry. That just because a big show is put in front of our face, might not be sufficient reason to emote with it.
An important component of wisdom may be improving the alignment of our beliefs with the actual physical truth of reality. And of factoring in the effect of all the errors we have - this again, might lead to a more humble posture. We start to appreciate the limitations and scope of our model of reality and of our memories of the past. Of the nature of the prejudices and judgments that we make. My current suspicions regarding wisdom are these
Wisdom operates through the model of reality within our minds. Experience and learning is the process of laying down stories and beliefs into memory. These stories and beliefs are based on our inner vocabulary of forms and behaviors - themselves made up from our 2d sensory and muscle patterns. This keeps our mental landscape anchored to physical reality. There are stories and beliefs about the world, and then there is the story of our own life. For any chance of wisdom, all these memories should be aligned as close to truth as possible. We should try to prevent our 'values' corrupting our knowledge about truth. For truth is valueless. Is amoral. The next process advancing wisdom is finding stories and beliefs within our collections, which have the highest approval rating, when tested against our 'values' within our simulation of reality. Wisdom is the consistency of your own approval, upon reflection, of decisions made in the past, while maintaining the very closest alignment with truth. That your beliefs about reality are based on truth. That your stories about you are based on truth, and that when 'your' story is judged against 'your values', you would not wish to change anything you did. Including with the added memories of 'hindsight'. But always remember, such wisdom is only being judged against our personal 'values', and so is not absolute, but provisional. Since our core values could be wrong. There will be a higher 'moral wisdom'. So perhaps increases in provisional wisdom could relate to:
